Sarie Marais: A romance of the Anglo-Boer War / Manfred Nathan

This is the story of Sarie Marais, the national heroine of the Boer people – now known as the Afrikaners. The tale is told from her point of view.

The author’s conception of the heroine differs from that represented in the popular song “Sarie Marais”. Apart from actual historical characters, all the personages and incidents in this book are wholly imaginary, and no reference is intended to any living person.

Slight liberties have been taken with actual chronology, to conform to the requirements of the narrative – as in the case of Colonel Benson’s night march before the fight at Bakenlaagte. They may be discovered by the discerning reader.
